Controversy over photo of Narón council members with drug trafficker Laureano Oubiña
The local socialists called the publication the "photo of shame" during the Feira da Mel (Melt Fair).
The PSdeG-PSOE spokesperson for Narón, Jorge Ulla, criticized the "shameful photo" of two councilors from the Terra Galega governing group with Laureano Oubiña, who served a sentence for drug trafficking, during the Feira da Mel (Melt Fair).
For Ulla, the image, in addition to being a "complete lack of sensitivity and respect" toward drug victims, confirms that "we cannot allow these figures to be normalized, nor can we allow governments to give them publicity and space for promotion."
"This isn't just a random or fortuitous photo. The City Council, through its institutional communication channels and with the presence of its councilors, provided space and a publicity platform to an emblematic figure of Galician drug trafficking," the Socialist spokesperson noted.
In this regard, he criticized the Terra Galega government for "whitewashing drug trafficking" through "cultural and political promotion."
The Socialists have pointed out that this situation is a "disastrous example" for the municipality's young people, and the "indignation is exacerbated" when one of the councilors pictured with Oubiña heads the City Council's Health Department.
"It's a complete ethical contradiction for the municipal official responsible for ensuring public health to be smilingly photographed with a person whose career is linked to the destruction of the health of thousands of people," Jorge Ulla argued.
For all these reasons, the Socialist Municipal Group will present a motion at the next plenary session with the goal of "repairing the image and the institutional damage caused." They have demanded that the councilors publicly apologize to the public and that the mayor publicly condemn the actions of the Terra Galega councilors.
