The Galician Medical Union (SIMEGA) has called on all doctors, physicians and resident physicians in the public health sector of the autonomous community to participate in the strike planned between April 27 and 30, in defense of a Professional Statute that recognizes the "uniqueness" of the medical profession .

The Trade Union Organization has described as "essential" the creation of a specific negotiation framework for doctors and medical professionals, with their own tables that allow their working conditions to be addressed in a differentiated way, while also advocating for a professional classification "in accordance with their training and responsibility".

In a press release, the union referred to the voluntary nature of on-call shifts, the regulation of excess working hours counted towards retirement, and "the end of grievances regarding rest periods and work-life balance" as other demands that have led these professionals to the third week of an indefinite intermittent strike that began last February.

"This mobilization not only defends decent working conditions for professionals, but also the quality and sustainability of the healthcare system, therefore it reiterates its invitation to all doctors and medical professionals to support the strike," he concluded.
